Overdraft Protection
When you have a First Tech checking account, you can add a cushion against overdraft charges by setting up a savings or VISA credit card account. It's not required, but it is a nice addition that can be added to any First Tech checking account.
Account options for overdraft protection include:
- Transfers from Regular Savings Accounts. Overdraft protection from savings accounts will only transfer the exact amount needed to bring your account balance to $0. The transfer will occur once each night. By only transferring the amount needed to cover the overdraft, we are leaving more money in your savings account where it can earn dividends. No more than six overdraft transfers from a savings type account will occur in any one month. These transactions fall within the maximum 6-transfer rule. (For more information on this rule, please see your Membership Account Agreement section 13b.)
- Loan advances from designated Visa and line of credit accounts. Loan advances will occur in increments equal to the amount sufficient to cover the overdraft, so long as the credit limit is not exceeded. Loan advances incur finance charges based on the Visa and/or loan account agreement.
With overdraft protection, if you go over what you have in your designated account, you won't bounce a check. Instead, we'll take money from another designated account to cover the difference. You can have funds protected via a First Tech savings account, instant access account, home equity line-of-credit, and of course a VISA credit card.
